PASTOR MALDONADO
Pastor Maldonado was born on March 9, 1985 in Maracay, Venezuela. The first time he raced at a formula racing, was in Italy in 2003. He remembers the thrill and the excitement of his first competition very well. He then competed in the Italian Formula Renault championship and was classified seventh in the drivers’ championship. His remarkable results included three podium finishes and one pole position. Pastor Maldonado is the first Venezuelan to win a Formula One Grand Prix, in the Spanish Grand Prix for Williams.
When Maldonado approached us for a special skeleton customization of a timepiece, we knew we had to go back to the roots and design for him a special Daytona concept. His professional career as a racing driver made it evident for us that we should make a special design that would express our deep appreciation of the world of racing and Formula One.

THE MALDONADO CONCEPT
Pastor Maldonado, a F1 champion, gave us the perfect opportunity to take the Daytona model, a model who originally was created by Rolex in inspiration of the world of Formula one races and racing cars, and to take it several steps further. The watchword of Maldonado? “Push the limits of the concept and surprise me.” The Maldonado Concept cannot be mistaken with any other timepiece we have designed. The theme is crystal clear – and our intention was to make it singularly obvious even to the uninformed eye, that this timepiece is made to reflect the world of professional racing. Unlike the original Daytona, the bezel is made of grade 5 Titanium, giving it a high quality and noble aspect. The Oyster steel bracelet and the case, as well as the Titanium bezel were hand-brushed circularly, reminiscent of the vintage racing cars of the 1970s and 1980s.
The entire timepiece is with Matte finitions, giving it a noble and elegant aspect. Our master watchmakers have opted for a luxurious and warm blue-grey palette color, known in french as the aristocratic “bleu horloger”, for the skeletonized dial. In the world of Haute horology and fine watchmaking, the use of this color for a movement is very special and rare, for it requires a level of precision and rigor to create this specific color tone and harmoniously apply it to the timepiece. It is a true difficult challenge, one our team have succeeded with flying colors. The architecture of the movement is made to symbolize minimalism and elegance while the automatic winding module is sharply cut in order to further emphasize the racing world competition.
The bevelling of the timepiece is handmade, corresponding to the highest standards of fine watchmaking. It reflects the automotive world codes of Pastor Maldonado, where each turn or acceleration are precisely calculated.

The Maldonado concept – a breathtaking majestic piece on the wrist.
The general aspect of the movement is sublimed thanks to the anthracite gray on the barrel cage, oscillating mass and the balance bridge and of course the titanium bezel. The blue dial is blended in the movement and gives it a spectacular effect, while the brass wheels of the timepiece are intentionally kept untouched to harmoniously accompany the rest of the movement.
The skeletonized movement makes the timepiece precise and aesthetically exact. This timepiece gives off something extra. “Less is more” has never been so true – this timepiece is the perfect combination of minimalism and magnificence. The Maldonado Concept transpires “F1 competition”, “tournaments”, “Ferrari” and “Lamborghini” just by looking at it. It is aesthetically majestic.

Word of Pastor Maldonado
It was a great pleasure to participate in the customization process of my timepiece and create the “Maldonado Concept”. To have such a high standard and haute horology watch named in my name is a great honor.
Much like when I prepare for a race, designing this timepiece has been an incredible experience. The master watchmakers of Skeleton Concept have thought through every detail of the movement, the colors and every curve and cut of the watch. It all has been chosen with precision to make this timepiece spectacular. I can’t help but look at it and see how wonderful the result is. I am very proud of this unique creation.
